Yemeni Resistance Reports 27 Houthis Killed in Taiz Strikes Amid Escalating Conflict

Taiz – Yemen’s National Resistance forces, loyal to the internationally recognized government, announced Friday that 27 Houthi fighters were killed and 19 others wounded in strikes carried out over 3 days in Taiz province, southwestern Yemen.

According to 2 December, the outlet affiliated with Resistance leader and Presidential Leadership Council member Tareq Saleh, the operations targeted Houthi positions in the al-Barh front, destroying and disabling several vehicles and military equipment. The Houthis have not yet commented on the claims.

On Thursday, the government-run Saba channel reported that the Houthis had buried 57 fighters over the past 10 days, including 31 officers three of them brigadier generals killed on various battlefronts.

The developments come amid renewed clashes across multiple provinces, including Marib, al-Jawf, al-Dhalea, and Taiz, as tensions rise despite a UN-brokered truce in April 2022 that had slowed the war. 

The Saudi-led coalition continues to back government forces, while Iran is accused of supporting the Houthis, who last month declared a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia.

UN envoy Hans Grundberg warned Thursday at a Security Council briefing that Yemen faces its greatest risk of returning to full-scale war since the 2022 truce. 

He cited recent Houthi attacks in Marib, Hadramout, Mokha, and other areas that have caused casualties among both military personnel and civilians.

The escalation underscores the fragility of Yemen’s conflict landscape, where localized flare-ups threaten to unravel years of mediation efforts and deepen the humanitarian crisis in a country already devastated by more than a decade of war.
