Yemeni President Outlines Three Pillars of Future Saudi Support, Including Rebuilding State Institutions

The Chairman of Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad al-Alimi, announced that Yemeni-Saudi relations have entered a new phase of strategic partnership focused on three key objectives for the coming period: rebuilding state institutions, supporting recovery and stability efforts, and strengthening Yemen’s economic, service, and development capacities over the long term.
In an interview with the Saudi newspaper Okaz, Al-Alimi explained that Saudi Arabia’s new $150 million grant for the electricity sector and petroleum derivatives is part of a broader and ongoing support package aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Yemeni state.
The Presidential Leadership Council chairman noted that Saudi economic assistance has played a crucial role in recent years in preserving the cohesion of government institutions and enabling them to meet essential obligations despite the severe consequences of attacks by the Houthi group on crude oil export facilities and ports.
Support Conditions and Governance Reforms
Al-Alimi stated that the new support package coincides with comprehensive reforms being led by the government under Prime Minister Dr. Shaya Al-Zindani, with direct oversight from the Presidential Leadership Council. These reforms are intended to strengthen principles of governance and transparency across financial, administrative, and public service sectors.
He pledged that the grants would be managed with the highest levels of responsibility and efficiency to provide sustainable solutions to Yemen’s energy crisis.
Al-Alimi also said that Yemen is among the countries that stand to benefit most from Saudi Vision 2030 projects and investments. He argued that the benefits would have been more extensive and impactful had it not been for the war, which he said was initiated by the Houthi group with support from the Iranian regime.
Looking ahead, he expressed optimism that the next phase would bring further positive developments benefiting Yemen’s future and stability. He called on Yemenis to exercise “more patience” to see the full impact of development and humanitarian projects being implemented by the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, and the MASAM Project mine-clearance initiative.
