Yemeni national killed inside mosque during Friday prayers in Somalia

Mogadishu (HOL) — A Yemeni national was stabbed to death inside a mosque in Somalia while performing Friday prayers, according to his family on Friday,

The victim, identified by relatives as Fikri Hassan Al-Misbahi, was stabbed multiple times, his brother, Mohamed Hassan Al-Misbahi, said. The family said the injuries proved fatal.

Relatives said Al-Misbahi had traveled from Yemen to Somalia after obtaining work with a company in the electricity sector. He previously worked at the Al-Mansurah Power Station in Aden and had gone to Somalia seeking an opportunity to support his family.

His family described him as a man known for his good character and conduct and expressed grief over his death.

The relatives said the killing was allegedly carried out by a Somali national, but no official details have been released about the identity of the suspect, the motive or the exact circumstances of the attack.

The family called on Somali security authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and bring those responsible to justice. They also urged the Yemeni government, the Yemeni Embassy in Somalia and Al-Misbahi’s employer to follow up on the case with Somali authorities.

The family also appealed for the body to be repatriated to Yemen as soon as possible for burial near his relatives.

Relatives said they were seeking justice rather than revenge and stressed the seriousness of the killing, which they said occurred inside a place of worship during Friday prayers.
