The Yemeni army on Friday evening said it had carried out drone attacks on Houthi fighters and vehicles in the country’s central province of Marib.

In a statement, the army’s media center said its drones had targeted “Houthi militia members and vehicles” on the “frontlines” northwest of Marib.

It also released video footage purporting to show the strikes and the destruction of military vehicles.

The statement provided no details regarding casualties or the number of drones involved in the strikes.

As of 1700GMT, Houthis had not responded to the army’s claims.

In 2014, the Iran-backed group overran much of the country, including Yemeni capital Sanaa.

This was followed by several years of war between the Houthis and Yemeni government forces backed by a Saudi-led coalition.

Since the eruption of the Israel-Gaza conflict in 2023, the Houthis have become increasingly involved in regional hostilities, carrying out missile attacks on Israel and Israel-linked commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

The latest uptick in fighting — coupled with the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States — has revived fears of a return to full-scale conflict in the impoverished Gulf country.
