Yemen Receives First Batch of Emergency Power Plant Equipment

Aden – Yemen’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy announced Friday the arrival of the first batch of generators and equipment for a new emergency power station with a capacity of 100 megawatts in the interim capital, Aden.

In a statement, the ministry said the shipment, consisting of 12 trailers, reached Aden as part of a project to establish a new plant under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) system, aimed at boosting generation capacity and improving the stability of electricity supply in the city.

The General Electricity Corporation has completed preparations at the project site within the Al-Hiswah power station to receive the equipment and carry out technical and engineering works. The ministry noted that additional shipments will arrive in the coming days.

The project is being implemented under a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Electricity and Energy, the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, and Gulf International Electric Power Company, with the attendance of Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jaber.

Once operational, the plant is expected to add around 100 megawatts to Aden’s generation capacity, contributing to greater grid stability and easing chronic power shortages in the city.

The initiative comes at a time when Aden and other Yemeni governorates continue to suffer from recurring electricity crises, particularly during periods of high demand.
