Yemen : 8 Killed, Including Security Officers, in Houthi Attack on Mokha Port

Al-Hudaydah — 8 people, including two security personnel and 6 civilians, were killed Friday in a Houthi missile attack on Mokha Port in Yemen’s western Taiz province, according to a military official.

The Houthis claimed responsibility for the assault, also announcing strikes on an Aramco facility in Najran, southwestern Saudi Arabia.

The military official said the Houthis fired five missiles at two commercial vessels docked at Mokha Port to unload cargo, igniting massive fires that engulfed the ships. He confirmed the deaths of two security officers and six civilians.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree stated that the group targeted “Saudi military reinforcements and warboats” in Mokha with a large number of ballistic missiles, claiming “precise hits” that destroyed vessels and weapons and caused “dozens of casualties.”

Yemen’s Ministry of Health condemned the attack, warning that damage to ports and vital infrastructure extends beyond material and economic losses, directly threatening food security, healthcare, and humanitarian supply chains.

Separately, Houthi media reported that the group targeted an Aramco facility in Najran with a drone strike, claiming the operation “successfully achieved its objective.” On Thursday, the Houthis had announced drone strikes on Aramco’s refinery in Jazan.

The escalation comes as Yemen has re-emerged as a frontline in the broader U.S.-Iran confrontation in the Middle East, following the Houthis’ suspension of a truce with the Yemeni government that had held since 2022.
