Xi Jinping Begins Egypt Visit To Strengthen Comprehensive Strategic Partnership With Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi: how 18 outlets framed it

The Egyptian presidency said Sisi would receive Xi as part of the Chinese leader’s official visit to the country, without specifying its duration, and the visit aims to strengthen political, economic and development cooperation and review the implementation of the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement signed between the two countries in 2014.

In a signed article published in Egyptian media outlets ahead of the state visit, Xi said China stands ready to deepen its comprehensive strategic partnership with Egypt and called on the two sides to enhance mutual trust and set an example of carrying forward friendship.

Xi also urged the two sides to deepen exchanges and cooperation in areas such as education, tourism, science and technology, health, sports and archaeology, while expressing readiness to work with Egypt to enhance the demonstration effect of their well-established cooperation.

The trip is framed as part of a broader overseas tour running from Aug. 30 to Sept. 3, and the Anadolu Ajansı report says Xi’s visit is his first to Egypt in a decade.

Anadolu Ajansı reported that bilateral trade between China and Egypt has grown to more than $10 billion and said the trip also comes as the two countries deepen military cooperation, with their air forces holding joint drills dubbed “Eagles of Civilisation” in Egypt.

The same Anadolu Ajansı piece said the drills involved Chinese J-16 fighter jets and Egyptian Rafale aircraft, and it added that Egypt became the first Arab and African country to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China in 1956.

In parallel, China Daily said Xi’s visit comes after China and Egypt nurtured a comprehensive strategic partnership since 2014, with a memorandum of understanding on cooperation under the initiative signed in 2016.

China Daily also cited investment and trade figures, saying “around 3,366 Chinese companies are investing in Egypt” and that bilateral trade reached $20.8 billion in 2025, up 19.6 percent year-on-year.

The China Daily account tied the relationship to Egypt’s role as a gateway via the Suez Canal and said the BRI can become a development network with broader regional impact by aligning with Egypt Vision 2030 and leveraging Egypt’s involvement in the SCO.

The Jerusalem Post said the three-day visit “coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries” and noted that Egypt was the first Arab and African state to establish relations with the People’s Republic of China in 1956.

In a separate framing, China Daily said Xi’s visit is aimed at contributing positively to “safeguarding peace and stability in the region,” and it described the partnership as grounded in mutual benefit through Egypt’s access to global trade routes via the Suez Canal and logistics infrastructure for Chinese companies targeting the Arab world, Africa and Europe.

CGTN described the stakes in economic terms, saying China and Egypt are gradually shifting from a model built around the movement of goods to one centered on “co-development of industrial capacity, regional production networks, and financial connectivity.”

CGTN also pointed to a specific example of what it calls that transition, saying the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone has “Nearly 200 enterprises” operating in the zone, supported by logistics, customs services, workforce training and government coordination.
