Woman hospitalized after entering oil waste site in Rubkona — Eye Radio

A woman in Rubkona County, Unity State, has been hospitalized after entering an oil waste disposal site.

State Minister of Information Nyakenya Yohannes said the site contains contaminated oil waste and hazardous materials.

Nyakenya said the woman, whose name has not been released, was found inside the site among garbage and hazardous oil waste.

“It is true that she entered the site, although she did not fall into it. She entered it herself. I think this is an individual who may have a mental health issue because, when she was brought out, she had tied a lot of things around her hands and legs, including a lot of garbage,” she said.

She said several strings and pieces of garbage were tied around the woman’s hands and legs when she was rescued.

The minister said authorities suspect the woman may be experiencing mental health challenges, although this has not been independently established.

“She is currently in a hospital in Unity State, and she will probably be transferred to a hospital in Bentiu. We are coordinating that now. But it is true, it has happened. I cannot say that she is in good condition, but of course, she is still alive,” she added.

She said the woman was seen walking into the hazardous waste area before she was rescued and taken to a nearby health facility.

According to the minister, the woman remains in critical condition but is alive.

Authorities are coordinating her transfer to a hospital in Bentiu for further medical attention.
