Two years after they met in an epic final at the Paris Olympics, Team USA and France go head-to-head again Sunday for the FIBA Women’s World Cup title. 

While the Americans will be favored to win their fifth consecutive championship at this event, France has been the more dominant team in Berlin so far. While the Americans had a scare with a three-point escape against Italy in the group phase, France has won its five games by an average of 35.6 points, with the closest margin an 86-64 rout of Germany in the semifinals.

Team USA topped Spain 76-66 in its semi but it was a bit of a struggle offensively, with Caitlin Clark scoring just one point and Breanna Stewart leading the way with 16 points. 

While France has been right there with the U.S. on the international stage in recent years, falling in a 67-66 heartbreaker in the gold medal game in 2024, the French are in the final at this quadrennial tournament for the first time. Their only previous appearance in the medal round came at the inaugural event in 1953, when they took bronze. 

Golden State Valkyries star Gabby Williams led the way for France in Paris and has been their best player again in this tournament, dropping 22 in the semis against Germany. Can she and her teammates finally get over the top against Team USA, or will the Americans stand on the top step of the podium once again?

The USA vs. France gold medal game is set to tip off Sunday at 2 p.m. ET, or 8 p.m. local time in Berlin. 

The bronze medal game between Spain and Germany will begin at 10:30 a.m. ET.
