WATCH: Opposition renews call for talks on Jamaica’s constitutional reform process

KINGSTON, Jamaica—Opposition spokesperson on Justice Zuleika Jess is renewing a call for the government to meet with the opposition to continue discussion on the country’s constitution reform process.

“The leader of the opposition has made attempts since September of last year, the leader would have called on the prime minister to have meaningful engagement, to meet with him so that the whole matter of constitutional reform could actually progress. As far as I’m understanding, that request for a meeting has not been accepted as yet,” Jess told Observer Online.

The Opposition spokesperson said Jamaica can only achieve full decolonisation with the establishment of its very own court of justice, led by the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) and achieve republic status.

“We need to ensure that we go to that place of full, complete and total decolonisation. That can only happen when we have our own court of justice, led by the CCJ, when we have a republic led by a Jamaican head of state. And so the journey continues. The opposition stands ready to work with the government to ensure that that is a reality, ” she said.
