ATLANTA, Ga. — The World Cup is drawing fans from around the globe to U.S. cities, and in Atlanta, supporters of Haiti and Morocco say the city offered them a mix of Southern staples, hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere as the two teams met in a historic matchup.
Some visitors got their first taste of a classic Atlanta stop: Waffle House.
One fan called it “top notch, top notch.”
Fans also pointed to what they experienced around the city, including interactions with law enforcement and the sight of mounted officers.
“The Atlanta PD is very helpful when you go there, out there helping ours, give you directions,” one supporter said.
Another fan praised the reception from Americans.

“Thank you, US people, like for the kindness organization and everything, I mean, this World Cup is, is just amazing in this country,” the supporter said.
Morocco and Haiti faced each other in a World Cup match for the first time ever, and fans described the moment as bigger than the final score.
“This is history, so we make it regardless what the outcome of the games,” one supporter said.

Others emphasized unity between the fan bases despite backing different teams.
“I mean, it’s made to reunite people. We are here with African, with, with, with our brothers from Haiti,” one Morocco supporter said.
Another fan said the atmosphere was about more than competition.
“Its about love, fun, and supporting our team, supporting each other, and getting together,” the supporter said.

Visitors also highlighted Georgia’s hospitality.
“The people of Georgia, thank you so much, hospitality in steroid, I mean, everybody very nice, everybody very respectful,” one fan said.
Ecuador and Germany square off on Thursday at 4 PM.
Japan and Sweden then play at 7 PM, followed by Türkiye versus the United States at 10 PM.
