WAFCON 2026: Atlas Lionesses face Senegal in bid to seal perfect group stage

Morocco’s women’s national team will look to complete a perfect group-stage campaign when it faces Senegal on Monday in the final Group A match of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Atlas Lionesses enter the match in commanding form after opening the tournament with consecutive victories over Kenya and Algeria. Morocco has scored seven goals without conceding, placing the team at the top of Group A with six points.

A win against Senegal would secure first place in the group and extend Morocco’s impressive recent run in the competition. The Atlas Lionesses have lost just one of their last 11 WAFCON matches and have kept four clean sheets in their previous five tournament outings.

Senegal, however, presents one of Morocco’s toughest tests so far. The Lionesses of Teranga are unbeaten in their last three WAFCON group-stage matches and have yet to concede a goal at the 2026 tournament.

Coached by Mame Moussa Cissé, Senegal has built its success on tactical discipline, defensive organization, and physical play. The squad is led by veteran forward Ngnar Ndiaye, Senegal’s all-time leading scorer at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with five goals.

Having reached the quarterfinals in both the 2022 and 2024 editions, Senegal is aiming to advance beyond that stage for the first time in its history.

The simultaneous Group A fixtures will determine the final standings and the two teams that advance to the quarterfinals. While Morocco and Senegal meet at Stade Moulay Hassan in Rabat, Kenya will face Algeria at the Olympic Stadium.

The match kicks off at 9 p.m. local time at Stade Moulay Hassan in Rabat.
