USA v CMR: Breaking down the stats from a historic game
ISTANBUL (Türkiye) – USA’s scoring rampage on the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2026 continued on with a 141-85 victory over Cameroon in the Round of 16.
This was the second-highest-scoring game in the history of the U17 World Cup, with 226 combined points. The record is 227 points, set in a Group Phase game between Lithuania and Korea in 2012.
USA vs Cameroon also set the record for the highest-scoring knockout game in tournament history.
The game saw four records nearly broken including one by the first-timers from Africa.
The 141 points ranks tied for third all-time behind the 146 points the Americans scored in 2024 against China and the 145 against New Zealand in the 2024 Semi-Finals.
The Americans also dished out 44 assists – ranking them third all-time as well. USA dished 49 assists against Philippines two years ago as well as 46 versus Italy in the 2024 Final.
USA also converted 34 free throws against Cameroon, setting a USA Basketball record and ranking second all-time. Lithuania made 36 foul shots against Puerto Rico in 2024.
There was also a near record on the other end for first-timers Cameroon. By scoring 85 points, the Africans tallied the third-most points in FIBA U17 World Cup history against USA. The only two teams to score more were Australia’s 99-92 loss in the 2014 Final and Italy’s 129-88 defeat in the 2024 Final.
