UPDATE: Man accused of shooting 2 deputies at NC-VA border spotted in Surry County

The Wytheville Police Department says Prichett was spotted on a wildlife game camera in Surry County, North Carolina, at 6:56 a.m. on Greenhill Road, north of Mount Airy.

The United States Marshals Service is searching for a man accused of shooting two Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputies at the North Carolina-Virginia border.

According to a social media post, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to a request for a welfare check at 13658 Fancy Gap Highway in Virginia at 9:26 p.m.

Deputies say that when they arrived at the address, Michael Puckett opened fire and deputies returned fire.

Both deputies were shot. Deputy Sheriff Logan Utt sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead. Sheriff Kevin Kemp was shot in his ballistic vest and was reported in stable condition.

According to the US Marshal Service, Puckett has a history of violent criminal behavior.

Puckett fled the scene and according to law enforcement, should be considered armed and dangerous.

NATIONAL NEWS

The United States Marshals Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are offering a reward of up to $60,000 for information leading to Puckett’s arrest.

Anyone with information on Puckett’s whereabouts is urged to contact law enforcement immediately. The public is advised not to approach or confront Puckett.
