UN Report: Over 60 Civilian Casualties in Houthi Attacks on Yemen

Aden — A new report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) revealed that more than 60 civilian casualties have been recorded following recent Houthi attacks on populated areas in Marib and Taiz, northeast and southwest Yemen.

According to the report, local authorities confirmed nine civilians killed and at least 54 injured in strikes targeting residential neighborhoods in Marib, Taiz, and Mokha. Nearly 67% of the reported victims were in Mokha district, Taiz, where 42 civilians (seven killed and 35 wounded) were affected. In Marib, 21 civilians were reported among the casualties (two killed and 19 injured). Additional injuries were also reported from attacks on commercial vessels in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, though figures remain unverified.

The UN office noted that the violence has triggered a new wave of displacement, with at least 162 families (around 1,134 people) forced to flee. Most of the displaced were in Taiz (120 families), including 35 from Mokha and 85 from other parts of the governorate. Further displacement was reported in Hodeidah (21 families), Lahj (18 families), and Marib (three families).

Hostilities have also damaged vital infrastructure and disrupted essential services. Operations at Mokha port were temporarily suspended, while shelters in Marib sustained damage.

OCHA stressed that humanitarian partners are scaling up their response, providing emergency shelter, non-food items, cash assistance, and protection services through rapid response mechanisms to meet the growing needs of displaced and affected families.
