UN condemns attack on agency-run service centre in Tripoli

The United Nations in Libya has condemned “repeated incidents”, particularly an incident on Monday morning at a service centre in Tripoli run by one of its agencies.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the UN office said the relevant authorities had opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incidents.

It said the incidents involved aggressive behaviour targeting centre staff and people visiting the facility to receive humanitarian assistance.

The UN stressed the need for all necessary measures to be taken to prevent similar incidents and ensure the safety of staff and people receiving services.

It also renewed its call for reliable information to be used and verified before being shared publicly, reaffirming its commitment to constructive engagement and close cooperation with the Libyan authorities and local communities.
