Ukrainian Navy Strikes Russian Bastion Missile System in Crimea
The Ukrainian Navy struck the launch positions and deployment site of a Russian Bastion coastal missile system in occupied Crimea early Sunday morning, Aug. 16.
The Navy reported on Facebook that the strike caused significant losses to Russian weapons and personnel, adding that the exact figures are still being clarified.

The military noted that the Bastion system is a scarce and expensive asset used by Russian forces to launch supersonic Onyx and hypersonic Zircon missiles at Ukraine’s southern and other regions.
The Navy stated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to reduce Russia’s combat potential in the Black Sea region.
Recent strikes on military infrastructure in Crimea
The Aug. 16 strike follows a major drone attack on Aug. 12 that resulted in large fires at several locations across the occupied peninsula.
Satellite imagery analyzed by the Crimean Wind monitoring group showed active fires near Balaklava, south of Sevastopol, and at a Russian military border facility in the village of Risove in northern Crimea.
Russian-installed Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev claimed at the time that intercepted drone debris had caused the fires in the city.
Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces Robert Brovdi recently stated that Ukraine’s campaign aims to undermine Crimea’s role as a staging ground for Russian operations.
