Uganda’s national cricket team, the Cricket Cranes, bounced back from consecutive losses against Italy and Hong Kong-China by securing a decisive eight-wicket win over Singapore.
The victory at TCA Arena in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, keeps Uganda firmly in the race for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup qualification.
After a 90-minute rain delay shortened the match to 40 overs per side, Uganda’s bowling attack dominated early. Bowler Juma Miyagi led the charge with impressive figures of 4 for 22, while Kenneth Waiswa and Joseph Baguma took three wickets each to bowl Singapore out for 175 runs in 40 overs.
Uganda made quick work of the chase, reaching 176/2 in 32.5 overs to comfortably seal the win.
Player of the Match Raghav Dhawan anchored the innings with an unbeaten 77 runs off 97 balls, supported by Simon Ssesazi (37) and Gerald Olipa (40 off 30 deliveries).
Dhawan praised his side’s execution, noting that restricting Singapore on a good batting surface was key to their strategic game plan.
Assistant coach Jackson Ogwang emphasised that the victory provides vital momentum heading into their crucial final match against Bahrain on Tuesday.
The dominant performance leaves Uganda tied at the top with leaders Italy on 22 points in the Challenge League B standings, though Italy holds a game in hand.
Hong Kong-China trails closely behind in third place with 20 points.
With top two teams advancing to the next stage of the qualification pathway, Uganda remains in a strong position to secure promotion.
