The scheduled international friendly match between the Uganda Silverbacks and South Sudan has been officially cancelled, Head Coach Mandy Juruni has confirmed.
The highly anticipated matchup fell through due to logistical and roster delays on South Sudan’s end, as the majority of their traveling squad has not yet arrived in camp.
“Unfortunately, we can’t play the South Sudan friendly game,” Coach Juruni explained. “Because, you know, most of their players are not yet here, so they had to cancel that friendly game.”
While the cancellation robs the Silverbacks of a different tactical look, it has forced a quick adjustment to the preparation schedule.
Uganda will instead shift their focus back to Rwanda, whom they lost to 83-89 in a closely contested battle earlier this week.
The second friendly game against Rwanda is locked in for Saturday. For Juruni, this rematch provides a perfect barometer to measure his team’s growth.
“Our next friendly game will be the following day, which is Saturday against Rwanda again. Looking forward to that, I want to see really the progress that we are going to make between the previous game and the next game,” Juruni added.
With more practice time under their belts and the arrival of Marvin Musiime and Nike Sibande imminent, the Silverbacks will look to use Saturday’s game to turn lessons into a victory.
