Liverpool 2-1 Atletico Madrid

Liverpool rallied from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid in their UEFA Champions League opener at Anfield on Wednesday night.

The Spanish outfit silenced Anfield on 16 minutes when Julian Alvarez did well to play in Marcos Llorente, who calmly slotted past Alisson Becker.

The Reds got back on level terms in the 40th minute when defender Ronald Araujo delightfully played in Dominik Szoboszlai, who slotted into the far corner.

The hosts completed the turnaround in the 50th minute when Alexis Mac Allister pounced on a lay-off from Alexander Isak and rifled the ball into the bottom corner.

Napoli 0-1 Arsenal

Last season’s runners-up Arsenal squeezed past Napoli 1-0 in their League Phase opener at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Neither side could find an opening in the first half, with the Gunners waiting until the 74th minute to get the opening goal through Martin Odegaard’s strike.

Mikel Arteta’s charges have now maintained their winning start to the season in all competitions.

Paris Saint-Germain 6-1 Slovan Bratislava

Reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain opened their League Phase showing with a 6-1 thrashing of Yaya Toure’s Slovan Bratislava.

Luis Enrique’s charges raced into a two-goal lead before 25 minutes when reigning Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele bagged a brace.

The third goal arrived in the 31st minute when Dembele turned provider to pick out Ferran Torres, who volleyed home at the near post.

Torres went on to complete his hat-trick in the second half with two goals before the hour mark, and Fabian Ruiz rounded off the scoring for the European champions.

Sporting CP 3-1 Galatasaray

Sporting Lisbon got their League Phase journey off to a winning start with a come-from-behind 3-1 win over Galatasaray.

The visitors were gifted the lead after just five minutes courtesy of an own goal from Sporting’s Goncalo Inacio.

However, the hosts hit back through Geny Catamo before the half-time break, while Luis Suarez and Rodrigo Zalazar completed the turnaround in the second period.
