Uber Pulls Out of Nigeria and Uganda in Shift Toward Autonomous Vehicles

Uber permanently ceased operations in Nigeria and Uganda on Wednesday, September 2. The ride-hailing company is also cutting more than 3,000 jobs worldwide as part of a cost-reduction drive. The moves are part of a broader shift in investment toward autonomous driving technology. The U.S. company is increasingly concentrating its spending on self-driving vehicles and on markets where road infrastructure is better suited to their deployment.
