The UAE has announced $10 million in urgent humanitarian assistance for people affected by the worsening crisis in Haiti, under the directives of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The aid will be delivered through the Emirates Red Crescent Authority (ERC) and will include food, shelter materials, medicines, medical equipment and support for water, sanitation and hygiene services.
The first phase of the programme will focus on urgent food, shelter, health, water and sanitation needs, with assistance prioritised for internally displaced people and other vulnerable groups.
The ERC will work with UAE missions abroad, international organisations and humanitarian partners to identify areas of greatest need and deliver the assistance.
Haiti is facing a worsening humanitarian crisis amid escalating violence, insecurity and disruption to essential services.
According to the latest international data cited by the ERC, more than one million people are internally displaced, around half of them children, while millions are facing food insecurity and require humanitarian assistance.
