Worldwide Caution: The Department of State advises Americans worldwide to exercise increased caution.

U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Officer (PAO) Craig Ferguson, alongside U.S. Department of State’s Regional English Language Officer Gena Rhoades, today awarded certificates to 36 employees of Madagascar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, marking the completion of the first cohort of the English for Diplomacy (E4D) program, funded by the U.S. government. The ceremony also marked the official launch of the program’s second cohort.

The program has already yielded a positive impact. “We couldn’t be more pleased to hear the recent nomination of one of this program’s participants, Lanto Rahajarizafy, as Ambassador to the United Nations in New York.  Several participants have also been selected for other prestigious international opportunities and we are very proud of their achievements,” said PAO Craig Ferguson.

These achievements reflect the talent, dedication, and leadership of the individuals who have participated in this program.

Diplomacy happens in English. It is the language of multilateral negotiations, international agreements, and global partnerships. By strengthening that capacity within Madagascar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through a curriculum tailored to the realities of diplomacy and built in partnership with ELTA Madagascar, the United States is helping Madagascar’s diplomats show up as confident, capable peers on the world stage.

As the United States celebrates Freedom250 – 250 years of independence and partnership – this program reflects what the U.S.-Madagascar relationship is all about: investing in people, building capacity, and growing stronger together.
