Nigeria’s Flamingos head coach, Akeem Busari, has expressed confidence ahead of Sunday’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying clash against Guinea, insisting his side is determined to secure another impressive victory despite holding a commanding first-leg advantage.
The Flamingos travel into the return leg at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne with a comfortable 5-0 aggregate lead following their dominant performance in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
However, Busari has warned his players against complacency as they seek to book a place in the final qualifying round.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Busari admitted that maintaining focus after such a convincing first-leg win remains one of the biggest challenges for his team.
“Complacency can set in when you are ahead in goals and performance, but we must remain focused,” Busari said.
“I still see Guinea as a team that can come out fighting. We have to give even more because we are playing at home.”
“Our fans want to see the beauty of the game, and we want to showcase what we have. We want to win excellently.”
The coach stressed that his players must approach the match with the same level of seriousness and commitment that earned them victory in the first leg.
Busari likened football preparation to studying for examinations, noting that success can only be sustained through continuous hard work, discipline, and repetition regardless of the scoreline advantage.
Since returning from Abidjan, the Flamingos have maintained intense training sessions in Ikenne as the coaching crew works to keep the squad sharp and fully focused on the task ahead.
Nigeria are overwhelming favourites to progress after their dominant display in the first leg, but Busari believes his young side must continue to improve and entertain the home supporters with another quality performance.
A victory or favourable result on Sunday will see the Flamingos move one step closer to securing qualification for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, where Nigeria will aim to continue their impressive record on the global stage.
