Turkey calls SDF weapons transfer a condition for integration
Turkey’s Ministry of Defense said on September 11 that the transfer by the SDF of its weapons and military equipment to the Syrian army is a natural requirement of the integration process. The ministry said it is monitoring the disbandment and integration of the SDF, which, in its assessment, should strengthen Syria’s territorial integrity and the principle of “one state, one army.” This was reported by Anadolu Agency.
Training of military personnel from Libya
Turkish Defense Ministry spokesperson Zeki Aktürk said at a weekly briefing that basic commando training for 362 military personnel from Libya’s eastern and western regions had been completed. According to him, Turkey will continue military training and cooperation with the eastern and western parts of the country in line with the goal of “One Libya, One Army.”
Aktürk also stated that the Turkish Armed Forces continue their activities within bilateral relations and international missions, including NATO. He reported Turkey’s participation in REPMUS unmanned maritime systems trials in Portugal, Phoenix Express maritime security exercises in Tunisia, Triton mine countermeasure exercises in Bulgaria, and NATO’s Bold Machina exercises in Portugal.

Statements on the situation in Gaza and Lebanon
During the briefing, a representative of Turkey’s Defense Ministry stated that Israel continues systematic attacks on Lebanon and Gaza, while residents of the region are forced to leave their homes. According to him, since March 2, more than 4,300 people have been killed and more than 12,300 injured in Lebanon as a result of Israeli attacks.
Aktürk also stated that more than 1,300 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire regime came into force in Palestine, while the total death toll since October 2023 stands at approximately 75,000. He added that, according to the World Food Programme, two-thirds of Gaza’s population faces critical or emergency levels of hunger.
In addition, the spokesperson said that on September 14, two Turkish F-16 fighter jets and a tanker aircraft are to conduct a training flight in NATO airspace over Romania. The flight is planned as part of enhanced vigilance activities conducted by NATO Air Command.
