Tunisia extends buffer zone with Libya and Algeria for a year

Tunisia has announced the extension of the buffer zone along its borders with Libya and Algeria for an additional year, effective August 29, 2026. 

The Tunisian Official Gazette published the presidential decree extending the zone, which was first established in 2013 for security reasons. The zone encompasses parts of southern, southeastern, and western Tunisia, and entry and movement within it are subject to prior procedures and authorization from the relevant authorities.

The decision aims to enhance border security and counter security threats, including arms and goods smuggling, irregular migration, and combating the movement of armed groups across the border desert regions.
