Tsingshan weighs major capacity expansion at Zimbabwe steel plant-Yieh Corp Steel News

Tsingshan Holding Group is considering a major expansion of production at its Manhize Steel Plant in Zimbabwe, where operations began in 2024.

The facility currently produces about 600,000 tons of steel annually, while the company is evaluating an increase in capacity to as much as 2 million tons.

Benson Xu, CEO of Tsingshan’s Zimbabwe operations, said the company is first focusing on broadening its steel product portfolio before increasing production volumes.

Around 40% of output from the Manhize plant is sold in Zimbabwe, with the remaining material exported mainly to South Africa, Malawi, and Zambia. The plant is located about 205 kilometres southeast of Harare and represents one of Tsingshan’s steel production investments in Africa.
