Not so Christian values

Re “Trump’s torment is playing out in Springfield. Don’t look away,” Aug. 26: I loved Ray Marcano’s column. I live in Springfield and attend a downtown church that had sponsored some Haitian families. I got to know these people who attended church and sat in the pew next to me. I will miss them, and already last Sunday found me sitting alone in my pew.

This is the future of Springfield since Trump does not care about anyone but himself. He should be made to go to Haiti and experience what things are like. I am even more appalled, as Ray mentioned, with all the haters loving this inhumane torture. They always quote “temporary” while ignoring the second word, “protected.”

Many call themselves Christians, but they are not behaving in a manner that Jesus would have done.

God help this horrible country.

Sherrod Brown has some nerve

Another election season brings yet another reminder of how closely politics and hypocrisy are aligned.

In a recent wave of campaign ads, former Sen. Sherrod Brown criticizes his opponent for supporting data centers, claiming they are the main driver behind rising utility prices, which is debatable. Yet Brown represented Ohio in the U.S. Senate for 18 years, leaving office just over a year ago.

Data centers have been expanding in Ohio for over two decades, with massive growth over the past 10 years – raising the question: Why wasn’t Sen. Brown taking on this fight while he was in office? Furthermore, Brown was a vocal champion of the Intel semiconductor plant in New Albany, despite data centers being among the primary buyers of those high-performance chips.

Ultimately, when a politician finds a line of attack that hurts an opponent, consistency seems to take a back seat.

RFK Jr. and Trump’s ‘medical’ malpractice

Re “Fauci’s diary raises a very troubling question, who was he really serving?,” Aug. 16: Does Philip Derrow know it’s 2026 and not 2020? The pandemic was a scary time, and no one wants to go through that again.

And yet Sen. Rand Paul decided four years after Dr. Anthony Fauci left government to haul him in front of a Senate committee and bombard him with questions about a diary. Why is this suddenly an issue again?

A diary isn’t policy. It isn’t a medical journal. It isn’t a scientific record.
If Fauci was guilty of any provable, quantifiable crime, surely that would have been revealed by now.
Don’t our senators have anything better to do? Surely Sen. Bernie Moreno is aware that Ohioans are struggling with grocery prices, gas prices and skyrocketing rents? How does spending time rehashing 2020 help right now?

If Moreno and Paul want to go after someone for medical malpractice, they should be questioning President Donald Trump (not a doctor) over EO 14420, which recommends changes to the vaccine schedule (likely on the advice of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., also not a doctor) and has been widely condemned by medical professionals and organizations (like the AAP) for spreading misinformation and confusion.
