Trump says Russia, Ukraine will halt energy strikes as diesel hits record high

WASHINGTON (TNND) — Ukraine and Russia have agreed not to strike energy targets, President Donald Trump said Monday, as diesel prices hit a new national record and the global fuel shortage worsened.

It was not immediately clear when the reported agreement would take effect, how long it would last, which facilities would be covered or whether Kyiv or Moscow had publicly confirmed the terms.

“The World’s Diesel price rise is mostly caused by the Russia/Ukraine War, not Iran,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The national average price of diesel climbed to $6.23 a gallon Monday, according to AAA. The International Energy Agency has said restricted fuel shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, along with disruptions to Russia’s refining system following intensified Ukrainian strikes, have compounded the global supply crunch.

Over the weekend, Trump urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to halt drone strikes on Russian diesel infrastructure. Ukraine has argued that strikes on Russian oil and gas facilities are intended to weaken a key source of funding for Moscow’s war.

The reported energy-target agreement comes as the broader conflict continues. Recent U.S.-brokered talks in Moscow and Kyiv produced no wider breakthrough, though the Kremlin said it remains open to restarting negotiations with Ukraine and the U.S. as soon as October.
