Thunderstorms to Hit Morocco’s Provinces

Rabat – Morocco’s weather office forecasts thunderstorms with possible hail and strong winds to hit several provinces across Morocco.

The General Directorate of Meteorology forecasts thunderstorms producing 20 to 35 millimeters of rain starting at 1 p.m. today.

The thunderstorms, with a risk of hail and strong winds, will affect the provinces of Jerada, Driouch, Guercif, Berkane, Taza, and Taourirt. The thunderstorms, which will continue until 11 p.m., will also affect Al Hoceima, Oujda-Angad, and Nador.

The weather office issued several weather alerts earlier this week.

While it forecast the heatwave, the alert also showed a significant shift, especially as it also forecasts thunderstorms and rainfall in several provinces.

On Saturday, one of the alerts forecast thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong wind gusts, along with high temperatures reaching 45°C, in several provinces of Morocco from Saturday to Sunday.

Some provinces are also experiencing floods due to recent thunderstorms, as viral videos show.

Moroccan coastal cities also witnessed a noticeable drop in temperatures, with chilly breezes throughout the day, unlike previous weeks when temperatures ranged between 30 degrees and above.

The weather directorate showed that weather in Morocco will feature temperatures of 26 degrees Celsius, a notable change in the capital compared to previous weeks.

Weather in the coming days will feature temperatures between 28 and 26 degrees in the coming days, according to weather applications, unless new weather alerts forecast more rising temperatures in Rabat.
