The United States became the second-largest destination for Colombian Hass avocado exports, after the European Union, reaching sales of US$125.4 million in 2025, a 73.6% increase over exports in 2024, when they totaled US$72.2 million.

In this way, the U.S. market continues to consolidate itself as one of the main drivers of the growth of Colombian Hass avocados, according to an analysis prepared by the Colombian American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Colombia), based on figures from the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE).

A fruit with competitive advantages

The analysis shows that Hass avocados are now one of the most successful cases within Colombia’s agricultural export portfolio, combining rapid growth, market diversification, and preferential access to the U.S. market.

According to AmCham Colombia, the dynamism of that market also represents a strategic opportunity for the sector, as the United States considers Colombia an emerging supplier with significant growth potential, accounting for about 4% of the U.S. avocado supply in 2025, a share that has steadily increased in recent years.

Maria Claudia Lacouture, president of AmCham Colombia, said Colombian Hass avocados have competitive advantages that strengthen their position in the United States.

“Colombian Hass avocados were exempted from tariffs to the United States, meaning they have a zero tariff. In addition, our country is able to produce this fruit 52 weeks a year, allowing for a continuous supply, as well as a logistical advantage to the U.S. East Coast, with transit times of around three days to Florida and five days to Philadelphia,” Lacouture said, as quoted in a statement from the organization.

During 2025, Colombian Hass avocado exports worldwide reached 201,479 metric tons, valued at US$375.3 million, consolidating the fruit as the country’s third most exported fruit, the analysis adds.

Compared with 2024, the export value increased by nearly 21%, while export volume grew by 45.7%, the result of greater export supply and the expansion of international markets.

Many countries around the world consume Colombian Hass avocados

The study also highlights that the expansion of cultivation has strengthened the sector’s economic and social impact. Colombia has nearly 55,000 hectares planted with Hass avocados, of which more than 40,700 are currently in production for export, while another 15,000 hectares will soon enter production. The crop is present in 17 departments and generates more than 240,000 jobs in producing regions.

For AmCham Colombia, the performance of the U.S. market confirms that Hass avocados have become one of the leading examples of Colombia’s export potential, thanks to a combination of quality, productive capacity, sustainability, preferential access, and logistical advantages that continue to strengthen the country’s presence in one of the world’s largest consumer markets.

The Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) reported earlier this year that Colombian Hass avocados have market access in countries across Europe, including both European Union and non-European Union members, as well as Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Aruba, Canada, Chile, the People’s Republic of China, Costa Rica, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Panama, Peru, Qatar, the Republic of Korea, and Singapore.

At that time, the Uruguayan market had just been opened, reaffirming the phytosanitary quality of Colombian Hass avocados worldwide and the confidence of trading partners in the procedures carried out by the ICA to maintain production and phytosanitary certification in accordance with international standards.
