On June 17, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in the United States held the “Celebrating Chinese Festivals Together – Discovering the Joy of the Dragon Boat Festival” Open House Event in partnership with International Club of DC. More than 100 guests from local communities attended the event.
Embassy staff presented guests with a vivid introduction of the origin and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival, noting that it is a traditional festival dedicated to commemorating heroes, offering prayers and extending good wishes. Traditional practices such as eating zongzi and holding dragon boat races have been passed down for thousands of years, reflecting the Chinese nation’s strong sense of unity and shared identity. China and the United States are both great countries. The people of both nations love their families and their countries, respect heroes, and aspire to a better life. The two countries can fully support each other’s success and achieve shared prosperity. The foundation of China-U.S. relations was laid by the two peoples, and it is hoped that more American friends will visit China, get to know China, and better understand China, helping to build bridges of friendship that strengthen bilateral relations.
Guests enjoyed performances of traditional Chinese folk music, classical dance, and lion dances. They learned how to make zongzi, traditional folk-style handbags, and braided cords, tried on Hanfu, wrote blessings and wishes, and shared the joy of this traditional Chinese festival.
