Temperatures Up to 46 Degrees Celsius to Continue Through Monday in Morocco

Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has issued a new weather alert, warning of a heatwave that includes temperatures of up to 46 degrees Celsius in several provinces across Morocco.

The new alert, issued on Saturday evening, includes temperatures ranging between 44 and 46 degrees in the provinces of Oued Ed-Dahab, Assa Zag, Es-Semara, Tata, Zagora, and Boujdour, with the alert stating that this weather will continue through Monday.

Temperatures between 40 and 44 degrees are expected in Taza, Taroudant, Tinghir, Khouribga, Fquih Ben Salah, Settat, and El Kelaa Sraghna.

Morocco’s weather office also expects similar temperatures in Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, Beni Mellal, Boulemane, and Guercif.

Essaouira, which usually experiences cooler temperatures compared to other regions, is expected to record temperatures between 38 and 40 degrees.

Morocco’s coastal cities, including Rabat, continue to experience hot weather, but temperatures have not exceeded 30 degrees in the past few weeks.

This comes unlike the end of June through the first of July, when the city experienced scorching temperatures that exceeded 37 degrees.

The weather alert echoes recommendations from Morocco’s Health Ministry, which urged citizens to avoid outdoor activities and direct exposure to the sun, while encouraging hydration and wearing light clothing amid the heat.

The ministry also urged citizens to visit the nearest hospital if they suffer symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, severe headaches, or other serious conditions that could result from direct exposure to the sun.
