Telecommunications services are being gradually restored in parts of southwestern Libya after flooding damaged infrastructure in recent days, according to the state-owned Libyan Telecommunications Holding Company.
The company said services from the operators Almadar Aljadid and Libyana were returning in the municipalities of Ghat and Tahala following disruptions caused by heavy rainfall and flooding.
It said damage to infrastructure included a cut to a fibre-optic cable operated by Hatif Libya, which led to one telecom site in Tahala going offline.
Company data showed that 11 out of 12 affected stations had been restored, representing about 91.7% of the network. Most sites are currently operating via backup VSAT systems while repairs continue.
Heavy rains and flooding have hit parts of southwestern Libya in recent days, damaging roads, communications networks and other public services. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to restore essential services and support relief operations.
