Sudan’s Prime Ministertory Kamel Idris said his government is committed to enabling Sudanese citizens wishing to return home, adding that an electronic platform has been set up to register requests and prioritise support in a transparent and fair manner.
In May 2026, the Sudanese embassy in Tripoli began organising voluntary return flights to Khartoum, with the first flight carrying 166 Sudanese nationals.
The Sudanese consulate in Benghazi also launched a similar initiative in August 2025, citing improved security conditions in some parts of Sudan, and invited applications via an online platform and through community representatives in several Libyan cities.
The UN refugee agency estimates that around 555,000 Sudanese refugees are currently in Libya, although other estimates suggest the number could be as high as 750,000.
