Sudan: Military supplies reaching Rapid Support Forces through locations inside Libya

Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Al-Harith Idris, accused the United Arab Emirates of continuing to support the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) through what he described as logistical corridors extending across Libyan territory, including ports, airports, and border crossings, to transport weapons, military equipment, and mercenaries to the Darfur region.

Speaking before the UN Security Council, Idris said the supplies arrive from the UAE at the ports of Benghazi and Tobruk and at airports in eastern Libya before being transported overland through Kufra and Al-Atrun into Sudan. He added that Kufra is “controlled by the Subul al-Salam Battalion,” according to his remarks.

He further claimed that the supply routes include the Kufra–Al-Buwaib crossing west of the Libya–Chad–Sudan border triangle, as well as Mismar, Al-Shujayrah, and Bir Marghi, in addition to a route passing through Al-Sarah Air Base before entering Sudanese territory.

Idris also accused the UAE of flying Colombian mercenaries from Abu Dhabi to Benghazi on chartered aircraft, alleging that this was carried out “in coordination with the Haftar militia” before they were transported by land across the desert to Darfur.

He further alleged that the support includes loitering drones, artillery, combat vehicles, air defense systems, and the preparation of makeshift airstrips to facilitate the movement of military supplies.

Sudan’s envoy called for the immediate cessation of the financial and military assistance, weapons, equipment, and personnel that he said the UAE and some neighboring countries provide to the RSF. He also called for the withdrawal of foreign mercenaries and an investigation into the networks responsible for recruiting them.

He further urged legal action against any parties found to be involved in supporting these activities, as well as security investigations into the facilitation and coordination of such operations. In addition, he called for an investigation into UAE security companies that he alleged were involved in recruiting mercenaries and transporting them to Sudan.
