Street Fight in Morocco’s Beni Mellal Leaves Nine Injured, With 2 Serious Cases

Rabat – A street fight in Oulad M’Barek, in the province of Beni Melall, left nine people injured with varying degrees of severity overnight Thursday into Friday.

Local authorities said the fight broke out around 3 a.m. between two groups of young men, with injured people transported to the city’s regional hospital center.

Two serious cases required transfer to the University Hospital Center in Casablanca for medical intervention.

The fight erupted due to personal disputes between the two groups, with sticks and stones used by the young men to settle scores.

Local authorities said one of the individuals used a device powered by compressed air to fire metal pellets, causing injuries that required urgent medical attention.

Security services opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the case.

Royal Gendarmerie arrested the first group of suspects believed to be involved in criminal acts. Police continue efforts to identify the remaining individuals.

Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security’s (DGSN) annual report last year said violent crime fell by 10% in 2025 as authorities expanded digital services and international cooperation, and stepped up preparations for major global sporting events.

DGSN emphasized that the total number of cases recorded was 779,008 cases handled by Moroccan police.

DGSN said this stability is accompanied by a notable decline in violent crime, which dropped by 10%.
