Hart backs Spain to keep heads
“Spain were composed in possession,” said Joe Hart on BBC One.
“I don’t think they will panic. Argentina are finding their way and putting pressure on the referee.
“They are going to have their moments, no doubt about it.”

HALF-TIME! Spain 0-0 Argentina
So, that was a tetchy 45 minutes. We enter half-time of the World Cup final goalless.
Spain have just edged it in terms of performance, with Lamine Yamal having the best chance of the game so far in the first five minutes after working it nicely with Dani Olmo, only for his deflected effort to be saved by Emi Martinez.
But for Argentina, there’s been very little to shout about, with the holders having zero touches in the opposition box.
England have seen this movie before… could we be in for similar drama after the restart?

‘Spain are being brought down a level’
Miguel Delaney gives his half-time thoughts from the stadium:
Argentina with an xG of 0.00 according to some of the counts. It’s been more like 1990 so far. A poor game where the patterns are already shaped. Spain are better, but they’re being brought down a level.

45+3 mins: Oyarzabal gives away a free-kick as he kicks Messi in the shin.
A little nod from the Argentinian to say “apology accepted” as Oyarzabal apologises sincerely.

‘Otamendi back for another final’
Here’s Richard Jolly inside the New York Stadium:
On comes Nicolas Otamendi, a man almost as old as Messi. It seemed he had the perfect end to his Argentina career when he won the World Cup in his 100th cap in 2022. But, four years on, he is back in another final.

Spain 0-0 Argentina
45 mins: Blow for Argentina this, with Lisandro Martinez down injured. He’ll be coming off, moments after being booked.
Nicolas Otamendi replaces him; ‘The Butcher’ is off for ‘The General’.

Spain 0-0 Argentina
43 mins: CLOSE! Cucurella fires a low effort across goal from just inside the box, and it flashes just past the post.
But there’s no panic from Martinez, who knew that was going wide.

‘Shades of 2010 and 1990’
Latest thoughts from Chief Football Writer Miguel Delaney inside the New York Stadium:
Finally a booking, the first for Lisandro Martinez for a foul on a breaking Mikel Oyarzabal. Argentina could have had five by now, which was the same at this moment in the 2010 final. There have been shades of both that and 1990…
