Spain Installs Sea Barrier on Ceuta Border With Morocco After Frontier Rush Kills 67: who 33 outlets blamed

CTV News said the barrier was installed after the rush that killed 67, and it framed the episode as a crisis that left at least 67 dead.
Onda Cero said that in 24 hours about 50,000 people entered Ceuta and about 48,000 had returned to their country of origin, while 67 died along the way.
Onda Cero added that the EU called an extraordinary meeting and that ministers of Interior would meet the next Tuesday by videoconference to address the evolution of the crisis in Ceuta.
EU Emergency Talks
The BBC said the European Union would hold emergency talks on Tuesday to discuss the migration crisis in Ceuta after tense exchanges between Spain and other member states.
The BBC reported that deaths from the surge in crossings had risen to at least 67 and that 22 member states issued a joint letter calling for coordinated action and strengthening the EU’s external borders.
Euronews said leaders from 22 European Union nations called for an emergency meeting and described it as an “extraordinary videoconference of the Ministers of the Interior,” initiated by Italy and Denmark.
Euronews quoted Ireland’s rotating presidency, with Micheal Martin saying: “As Presidency holders, Ireland will convene a meeting on Tuesday of the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council… to discuss developments in Ceuta”.
Blame, Borders, Fallout
The Jerusalem Post also quoted Grande-Marlaska saying, “Morocco isn’t any threat to Ceuta or the rest of Spain – it’s a fully reliable partner,” and it said Spanish police began installing a 500-meter floating barrier on Saturday.
NPR reported that Italy’s Giorgia Meloni temporarily suspended Italy’s open-border Schengen agreement with Spain and reimposed border controls for air and sea for travelers coming from the country.
NPR added that the far-right VOX party called for the militarization of the border and the immediate deportation of all migrants who crossed, including minors, as Spain’s political debate widened across Europe.
