Souza had Brazil links: “I played with Soares, he praised FC Porto”

FC Porto officially announced this Monday the signing of another new addition: left-back João Souza. In his first contacts with the Dragons, the player, on loan from Tottenham, was impressed by the size of the Porto club, which, in turn, was already well aware of the player’s qualities.

“I spoke with coach Francesco Farioli and president André Villas-Boas before coming. I played with Tiquinho Soares in Brazil and he spoke very highly of FC Porto. Everyone in Brazil talks about the club and knows FC Porto well,” he told the club’s media, before continuing with his introduction.

“I’m a very attack-minded, very skillful player, with grit, and I always think about playing forward. Off the pitch, I’m someone who likes being around the group and always tries to help and keep learning. I work with the focus on winning,” said Souza, pointing to the team’s collective goals.

“FC Porto won the title last season, but we want more. I will give everything on the pitch to achieve many victories and fight for every trophy,” assured the new signing, who is already familiar with the Brazilian full-back references at Porto.

“Alex Sandro and Danilo are incredible players. It’s very good to be following a bit of their path, both at Santos FC and at FC Porto. I’ve always followed them and they are idols to me,” Souza acknowledged, looking forward to his kickoff in blue and white.

“I’m very eager to be part of this great family and to be able to train and play in this shirt. I can’t wait to start living this dream,” added the new signing, finishing by speaking about the first contacts for this transfer.

“The first thing that crossed my mind was that FC Porto is a giant club, one that always fights for titles and always wants more. It’s a club with a great tradition of Brazilian players, and it is very rewarding to be here. I couldn’t pass up this opportunity; I never considered any option other than coming to FC Porto,” Souza assured.
