Southern force says it foiled ‘spy cell’

A military force in southern Libya says it has arrested a group it accuses of spying for rival factions.

The Southern Liberation Operations Room said its intelligence unit had detained a “subversive cell” working for Khalif Haftar’s militias.

In a statement, the force said the group had infiltrated its ranks and was passing sensitive information, including coordinates and details about military commanders and positions.

It said the operation to disrupt the alleged plot was made possible by heightened alertness and improved intelligence work.

Investigations are ongoing, and the identities of those detained have not yet been released.

The group reiterated its commitment to safeguarding its personnel and operations, warning it would take firm action against anyone found to be involved in espionage.
