South Sudanese Satellite Services Engineer Zamba Leonel demonstrates the EduSat Nanosatellite Training Kit during the New Space Conference 2026.

A South Sudanese engineer presented a satellite training kit at the New Space Conference in Libreville, Gabon, to provide African youth with experience in space engineering.

The 2026 edition of the New Space Conference, hosted by the Gabonese Agency for Space Studies and Observations, took place from April 20 to 23.

The event operated under the theme: “Inclusive Growth, Expanding Space Benefits to All Africans.” More than 600 delegates, including policymakers, investors, and experts from 70 countries, attended the proceedings.

Zamba Leonel, a satellite services engineer from the National Communication Authority (NCA) of South Sudan, showcased the EduSat Nanosatellite Training Kit.

The kit utilises a CubeSat platform to provide engineers with technical skills in satellite development.

The initiative seeks to connect classroom education with mission development. By using this platform, emerging talent can prepare for the technical requirements of the space industry.

The conference serves as a forum to promote partnerships and innovation within the African space economy. Stakeholders at the event focused on methods to ensure space technology benefits communities across the continent.

This presentation marks a contribution from South Sudan toward strengthening Africa’s position in global space technology.
