South Sudan, U.S. discuss bilateral relations, areas of mutual interest

South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Dr. James Pitia Morgan, and the United States Ambassador to South Sudan, Michael J. Adler, have discussed strengthening bilateral relations and areas of mutual interest between the two countries.

The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between the governments of South Sudan and the United States, as well as maintaining continued diplomatic engagement, according to a Friday post on the Ministry’s official Facebook page

The two officials also discussed preparations for the upcoming United Nations General Assembly, Ebola response, restoration of travel, and other shared priorities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said both sides reaffirmed their commitment to constructive dialogue, sustained engagement, and continued partnership in addressing issues of mutual concern.

The meeting comes as South Sudan and the United States continue engagements on diplomatic, humanitarian, development, and regional issues.

The United States remains one of South Sudan’s key international partners, supporting areas including humanitarian assistance, development, peacebuilding, and governance.

South Sudan and the United States have maintained diplomatic relations since the country gained independence in 2011.

The ministry said the discussions are expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation and address shared challenges affecting the people of South Sudan and the wider region.
