South Sudan to submit Boma-Badingilo Landscape for UNESCO World Heritage Status

The Minister of Culture, Museums and National Heritage, Sarah Nyanath, has confirmed that South Sudan will next month submit its nomination of the Boma-Badingilo Migratory Landscape to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre in Paris for consideration as a World Heritage Site.

The announcement was made during a meeting on Tuesday between Minister Nyanath and the French Ambassador to South Sudan, Philippe Michel-Kleisbauer, aimed at strengthening cultural and diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in culture and diplomacy. The minister expressed gratitude to France for its continued support to South Sudan, particularly in cultural development and heritage preservation initiatives.

Ambassador Michel-Kleisbauer welcomed the engagement and reaffirmed France’s support for South Sudan’s efforts, including the upcoming UNESCO nomination.

He said France looks forward to continued cooperation with South Sudan in promoting and preserving its cultural and natural heritage.

The planned submission of the Boma-Badingilo Migratory Landscape marks a major step in South Sudan’s efforts to gain international recognition for one of Africa’s important wildlife migration ecosystems.
