Mogadishu (HOL) — Somalia has strongly condemned a deadly bomb attack on a passenger train in Quetta, Pakistan, that killed at least 20 people and wounded dozens more.
In a statement Monday, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation extended condolences to the government and people of Pakistan and wished a swift recovery to those injured.
“Somalia stands in full solidarity with Pakistan and reaffirms its firm rejection of all forms of terrorism and attacks targeting innocent civilians,” the ministry said.
The blast struck a train carrying military personnel and their families as it passed through Chaman Phatak station in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, on Sunday morning. At least 70 people were injured.
The Balochistan regional government said the attack was a suicide bombing and blamed the Balochistan Liberation Army, a separatist group.
The BLA earlier claimed responsibility for the attack.
