I mean, you’re on a soccer podcast, and obviously Colombia, a lot of people are talking about them potentially being one of the big names in this, competition coming up in the World Cup.
Do you have some early World Cup memories?
What are your some of your, what are your some of the thoughts around the World Cup?
I mean, it’s a weird memory, actually.
I mean, I grew up in Colombia, so soccer was our life.
You know, every, Yeah.
And- Any, any guy you respect, it’s ’cause he plays soccer, basically.
Yeah.
Because, you know, I grew up, I grew up, that’s our sport.
We grew up watching it, you know, during the weekends.

We all would go to the stadium, whatever.
When I moved to the United States, I kind of lost that, you know- Yeah passion for it.
But I wait for the s- for the World Cup, then, then I’m back, you know?
I, I love when it’s the World Cup time.
But I do remember something special, you know.
I was already, you know, a little bit older, so I think that’s why I, I remember, the, the World Cup of ’94.
I don’t know if you remember our team.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Nuestra Seleccin was, I think, one of the best, teams in the world.
I don’t know how old you guys are.
I can’t see.
but I know you remember- I’m 22.
I just look like .

Yeah.
You- Uh- I don’t know if you remember, Higuita and- Yeah, of course.
El Tino Asprilla.
Higuita.
Yeah.
And, uh- Uh-huh you know, it was, I mean, Valderrama, El Pibe Valderrama.
El Pibe.
Let’s go.
Yeah.
From Barranquilla.
so those were our idols.
Those, those were our celebrities back in the day, you know?
And, you remember what happened in ’94?
Oh, I remember.
Yeah, yeah.
I don’t know if you were gonna bring it up, but I remember.
Yeah, the U.S. obviously won.
No, no, I’m not gonna bring it up.
I’m just saying.
No.
Nobody brought it up.
I mean, uh- Nobody brought it up.
We’re not even talking about it.
I don’t even know what you’re talking about.

Yeah.
But, but you know, but that’s how important it is for us, you know?
so I grew up in, in a world that soccer was everything for us.
You ha- at, started, and working on an incredible cause, and I wanna make sure, we get to, talk about it.
Well, yeah, I’m super excited because I’ve been working for a while now, on a mission with Octavia Spencer, the actress, and we’re both very, involved and, and, and we care a lot about this mission because, well, my mother It’s called Well, the mission is called Detect DSOS, and it’s all about, trying to, educate and trying to, tell people that, suffer from diabetes or high blood pressure that, that they’re in danger of, having, you know, chronic kidney disease, heart stroke, you know, heart attack and stroke.

Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
So it’s something, like, really close to our hearts because Octavia has diabetes and high blood pressure, and for me, because my mother has high blood pressure, and because as a Latin woman, I know a lot about it because Latins, we suffer a lot from diabetes and, high blood pressure.
Like, we’re one of the groups that are really, really at risk.
So this mission is really cool because we’re telling them, “Listen, if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, there is one test that is called the UACR test.
That is a urine test.
It’s nothing dramatic.
It’s not like a, you know, they put you, like, in some s- weird scan or, or they have to, you know, put you to sleep, or they have to inject you with something.
Nothing.
It’s just urine.
you go to your doctor, ask for this test, and then you’re gonna know if you’re at risk of having, chronic kidney disease, heart attack, or stroke.”
So that’s pretty cool
