Sisi, Guterres discuss regional developments, Palestinian issue

New Delhi, Sept. 13 (SANA) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres discussed Saturday a range of regional issues, with the Palestinian cause at the forefront, during talks on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi.

Egyptian presidential spokesman Mohamed el-Shennawy said el-Sisi stressed that achieving peace and stability in the Middle East requires a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue in line with international legitimacy, in a way that ensures lasting peace and regional stability.

The two sides also reviewed Egypt’s efforts, in coordination with mediators, to implement the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, the spokesman said.

el-Sisi also called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in ensuring the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid to people in the Gaza Strip.

Guterres, for his part, praised Egypt’s role in promoting dialogue, peace and coexistence and in supporting security and stability in the Middle East and Africa.

The BRICS summit opened in New Delhi on Saturday with the participation of the presidents of China, Russia, Iran and Egypt, alongside high-level representatives from other member states.
