SIS publishes report highlighting expanding Egypt-China strategic partnership

The State Information Service (SIS) has published a special report examining Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Egypt and the growing strategic partnership between Cairo and Beijing.

Themed “Egypt and China: A Strategic Partnership Towards the Future”, the report explores the political, economic and strategic significance of the visit and the rapid expansion of bilateral relations.

Prepared by the SIS Centre for Media and Political Studies, the report examines the timing and importance of the visit, which came as Egypt and China marked 70 years of diplomatic relations and the development of their ties into a comprehensive strategic partnership.

The report highlights the signing of more than 20 co-operation documents covering the economy, trade, industry, supply chains, artificial intelligence, information technology and the Belt and Road Initiative.

It said the partnership is also expanding beyond major infrastructure projects to include industrial localisation, technology transfer, the digital economy, AI and new energy.

Egypt’s strategic importance

The report highlights Egypt’s strategic importance to China, citing its geographic location, the Suez Canal’s role in global trade and its position in both the Arab and African regions.

It describes Egypt as an important gateway for Chinese companies and investment to regional and African markets.

The report also reviews the growth of bilateral trade and Chinese investment in Egypt, with a particular focus on expanding local manufacturing and exports.

It highlights the Suez Canal Economic Zone as a key area for deeper co-operation. The zone is being developed as a major hub for production, manufacturing and logistics, while providing access to regional and international markets.

Expanding strategic co-operation

The report analyses the messages delivered in speeches by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and President Xi, highlighting their shared vision for further enhancing bilateral relations.

It also reviews the expansion of defence and security co-operation, including growing military ties between the two countries.

The report concludes that the more than 20 agreements signed during Xi’s visit reflect the increasingly broad scope of the Egyptian-Chinese partnership.

The partnership, it said, is moving towards greater co-operation in technology, manufacturing and economic integration, alongside traditional areas of infrastructure and trade.

The SIS said the report forms part of its efforts to provide comprehensive analysis of major international visits and events involving Egypt. It aims to give readers a clearer understanding of their political, economic and strategic implications.
