Singapore to host Brazil, Japan, Paraguay in star-studded football festival

Singapore will host a series of blockbuster football fixtures during the Fifa window in November, including a clash between Brazil and Japan, organisers announced on Thursday.

The Mizuho Blue Challenge will also involve the hosts and Paraguay, with four matches taking place in the space of five days at the city’s National Stadium at The Kallang.

Singapore will take on Paraguay in the opening fixture on November 13, with Japan and Brazil facing off a day later. A double-header on November 17, with Singapore taking on the five-time World Cup winners, promises to be the highlight of the week.

In a statement, organisers The Kallang Group and Dentsu Sports International, said the event was being backed by the Mizuho Financial Group and would also part of the Singapore-Japan 60th Anniversary celebrations to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“The Mizuho Blue Challenge – The Kallang Football Series Singapore represents a significant milestone in The Kallang Group’s growth as we evolve from operating venues to creating world-class event properties that Singapore can proudly call its own,” Daryl Yeo, the group’s COO and CEO, said.

“As we expand our portfolio of signature events, this inaugural tournament reflects our commitment to bringing premier sporting action to Singapore and creating more opportunities for fans and communities to come together.”
