Siemens Energy will supply power generation and gas compression systems for two Petrobras FPSOs being developed by SBM Offshore in Brazil’s Sergipe-Alagoas Basin.
The package includes 16 modular skids, eight for each vessel (P-81 and P-87), that will support power generation, gas processing, gas export and reservoir reinjection operations.
Most of the equipment will be assembled at Siemens Energy’s Santa Bárbara d’Oeste facility in Brazil, helping meet local content requirements and supporting about 900 direct and indirect jobs. Deliveries are scheduled from late 2027 through 2028.
Supporting Petrobras’ SEAP project
The equipment package will support Petrobras’ Sergipe Águas Profundas (SEAP) development, one of Brazil’s largest planned offshore oil and natural gas projects.
The FPSOs are part of Petrobras’ Sergipe-Alagoas deepwater development, a major offshore oil and gas project expected to produce up to 240,000 bbl/d of oil and process 22 MMcm/d of natural gas. First production is targeted for 2030, with gas exports beginning in 2031.
The development also will incorporate production systems in water depths of more than 2,500 m, making it one of Brazil’s most technically demanding offshore projects.
Both FPSOs will be connected to a dedicated gas export pipeline, allowing offshore-produced gas to reach onshore processing facilities and Brazil’s domestic market rather than being flared or reinjected.
The Sergipe-Alagoas Basin has become a strategic growth area for Petrobras, which has said the SEAP developments will expand Brazil’s domestic gas supply while opening a new offshore production frontier in the Northeast.
